Nicolo Spera

Virtuouso classical guitarist Nicolò Spera brings a unique synthesis of European and American traditions together in a solo concert of classical and contemporary works. Originally from Italy, and one of the preeminent classical guitarists in America, Nicolò is one of the few guitarists in the world to perform on both six-string and ten-string guitars, as well as on theorbo. His wide-ranging repertoire includes the extraordinary music of the Franco-Andalusian composer Maurice Ohana. Nicolò is a professor of Classical Guitar at the University of Colorado Boulder; faculty of the study abroad program “Renaissance in the XXI Century” in Florence, Italy; and founder of the University of Colorado International Guitar Festival and Competition. He has mesmerized audiences from the Mediterranean Guitar Festival to the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan. His CD of Ohana’s complete works for solo guitar was awarded the 5-stars “Disco del Mese” review by Seicorde, the major Italian classical guitar magazine, who described it as “un disco di altissimo valore.” Ken Keaton of American Record Guide proclaims of Nicolò, “He finds mystical beauty along with the anger and terror of Ohana’s music.”  Presented in conjunction with the New Western Slope Chamber Music Series.
