Robert Earl Keen
From his humble beginnings on the Texas folk scene, Robert Earl Keen has blazed a peer, critic and fan-lauded trail that's earned him living-legend (not to mention pioneer) status in the Americana music world. And though the Houston native has never worn his Texas heart on his sleeve, he's long been regarded as one of the Lone Star State's finest and top-drawing true singer-songwriters. He was inducted into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2012, and in 2015 was recognized as the first recipient of BMI's official Troubadour Award. For over three decades, REK has been packing dancehalls, roadhouses, theatres and festival grounds with diverse crowds from rowdy college kids to serious singer-songwriter fans with his literate song craft, razor wit and seamlessly connected band. His eighteen albums showcase his original influences of classic rock, acoustic, bluegrass and country with bold experiments into beatnik jazz and psychedelic rave. A benefit concert for the Center's new building.
