Shelley Read

Shelley Read recently retired as a Senior Lecturer at Western Colorado University where she taught writing, literature, Honors, study abroad and environmental studies since 1991. She has also taught at Temple University and University of Denver and is the recipient of numerous teaching awards, fellowship, and grants. She has been a regular contributor to The Denver Post, Crested Butte Magazine, Mountain Kids, and Gunnison Valley Journal as well as an editor at Temple University Press, Foothills Literary Journal, and the D.U. Clarion. Shelley completed a double major BA in journalism and English from the University of Denver, an MA in writing and literature from Temple University’s Graduate Creative Writing Program, and PhD coursework and comprehensive exams in literary studies as a Dean’s Fellow at the University of Denver. She is a mom, mountain goat, and world traveler who has recently completed her first novel and is joyfully at work on two new books.
