“A Safe Place” is a dynamic and exciting West African performance with renowned artist Fara Tolno, from Guinea, West Africa. Accompanied by his brother Etienne Tolno and a variety of student artists, this theater performance will include two pieces from the Crested Butte community who participated in a 3-week Artist in Residency study with Fara in partnership with the Center for the Arts, as well as incredible drum and dance performances by Fara and members of the Kissidugu ensemble. Live drumming arrangements, choreography, and original music by Fara Tolno.
Fara’s concept behind this piece: “We need to be safe at this point in time and our planet is calling out for help from all of us. This is the time to deal with our own issues that we have not been dealing with and to love everyone unconditionally.” Kissidugu means “a safe place.” This cultural arts extravaganza is sure to provide viewers of all ages a rich experience that promotes wellness and increases unity.
All proceeds go to support further cultural arts programming in CB and that a portion of proceeds go to the Kissidugu School of Music, Dance and Education in Guinea.
Video available March 13 for viewing at your leisure.
