Indian Paintbrush

Alpine Robinhoodism: Castilleja as a keystone species

Feb 9, 2026 @ 5:00 pm

Presented by Gunnison Basin Chapter Colorado Native Plant Society

How does the Indian paintbrush obtain its food? Some plants extract their nutrients from the sun. Instead, the paintbrush, in addition to photosynthesizing, parasitizes other plants. Through his research at Rocky Mountain Biological Lab, Jordan Argrett will lead us to a positive view of plant parasitism in plant communities. Please join the Gunnison Basin Chapter of the Colorado Native Plant Society for this special talk.
