Mark Schwiesow
Facilities Manager
Mark Schwiesow is the Facilities Manager for the Crested Butte Center for the Arts and has called Crested Butte home for over 40 years. While studying film production at Columbia College Chicago, Mark began a career as a freelance writer/producer/director for educational, commercial, industrial and documentary films. During this time, he was also a film/video Artist-in-Residence for 6 states including Colorado. As his commitment to Crested Butte grew, Mark traded one creative passion for another: film and video took a back seat to construction and architectural design. In the 1990’s Mark created Building by Design, LLC, Crested Butte’s first full-service design/build company, winning a BOZAR award for architectural design in 2008. He also won several writing awards for his feature screenplays at major international film festivals. Along the way, Mark and his partner Marcie Telander created Vinotok, Crested Butte’s annual Fall Harvest Festival, with some of the grand old-timers in 1985. U.S. News and World Report once called Vinotok, “America’s best small-town festival.” Mark views his work at the Center as a perfect synthesis of his past experiences and considers it one of the best jobs around.
